Maduka Okoye: Torino vs Udinese – Preview, team news, predictions & H2H

Published on by

Maduka Okoye will have another busy evening ahead of him when Udinese travel to face Torino on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper has started every Serie A match Udinese have played this season, and he arrives in Turin on the back of three straight league defeats that have left his side needing a response.

Torino are not in much better shape themselves, sitting just one place below Udinese after five rounds, with both clubs taking four points from a win, a draw and three defeats apiece.

Torino vs Udinese: Match Preview

Ignazio Abate’s first season as a top-flight head coach has started unevenly, with Torino’s only win in five games coming at home to Fiorentina on September 5.

That 2-1 victory remains the high point of an otherwise mixed run, one that includes a 0-2 defeat away at Roma and a 1-1 draw with Bologna in their most recent outing on September 19.

Udinese’s form isn’t any better, with their last three matches alone producing three defeats and eight goals conceded, including a 3-5 collapse at home to Inter and a 1-2 loss at Lazio.

Kosta Runjaic’s side have also failed to win on the road this season, drawing at Como and losing at both Lazio and Cagliari in their three away trips.

Udinese’s attack has not been toothless, though, scoring in four of their five league games, with Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Hassane Kamara sharing the responsibility on two goals and an assist apiece.

For Torino, the picture up front is complicated by fitness concerns around Che Adams, their leading scorer, whose return from injury is still not guaranteed in time for this one.

Maduka Okoye, the Super Eagles goalkeeper who kept 10 clean sheets last season was on the bench in Nigeria’s two AFCON 2027 qualifiers in September.

Maduka Okoye and the Head-to-Head Record

Udinese won 2-0 at home in May 2026, and before that they won 1-2 at Torino in January 2026, with Zaniolo scoring just after half time and Ekkelenkamp adding a second with eight minutes left, before Casadei’s 87th-minute strike proved only a consolation.

Torino’s most recent win in the fixture came back in April 2025, a 2-0 home success, with a 2-2 draw and a Udinese home defeat also featuring among the five most recent meetings.

Across the past 28 meetings between both sides, Torino have secured 14 victories while Udinese have won eight games.

Team News: Torino vs Udinese

Torino

Torino’s main concern is Niccolo Fortini, who picked up an adductor strain on Italy U-21 duty and has been doing individual training rather than full sessions, making him a doubt rather than a certain absentee.

Adams remains touch and go after his spell out, while Pietro Pellegri continues his recovery from a long-term knee injury and is not yet considered match fit.

Pietro Comuzzo and Casadei are both back in full training after recent absences, giving Abate options in central areas that Udinese currently cannot match.

Predicted Torino XI (3-5-2): Perri; Cömert, Ismajli, Comuzzo; Cacciamani, Fitz-Jim, Bragança, Mandragora, Fortini; Vlasic, Simeone.

Udinese

Udinese are missing three senior players altogether, with Idrissa Gueye out long-term with an ankle injury, Zaniolo sidelined by a thigh problem, and Jakub Piotrowski absent with a health issue whose return date has not been confirmed.

Juan Arizala, Keinan Davis and Matteo Palma are further doubts for Runjaic, which leaves his options light in both midfield and attack.

Predicted Udinese XI (3-5-2): Maduka Okoye; Abankwah, Kabasele, Solet; Vojvoda, Karlström, Ekkelenkamp, Miller, Kamara; Gomez, Bayo.

The Managers: Ignazio Abate vs Kosta Runjaic

Abate took over at Torino on June 12, 2026, replacing Roberto D’Aversa, and signed a contract through to 2028.

It is his first job in charge of a Serie A club, having spent the previous season with Juve Stabia, guiding the Serie B side to a seventh-place finish and a play-off run that ended in defeat to Monza.

The former Milan and Italy full-back also spent time coaching in Milan’s academy and at Serie C side Ternana before that, and has a personal connection to this fixture, having played for Torino himself back in the 2008/2009 season.

Runjaic, the Austrian head coach, has been in position since July 1, 2024, having succeeded Fabio Cannavaro at Udinese.

He arrived with a strong recent record, having won the Polish Cup and Polish Super Cup with Legia Warsaw and taken the club into the knockout rounds of the Europa Conference League, and he was named Serie A’s Coach of the Month for May 2026 following a run of improved results.

Tactical Preview: Torino vs Udinese

Both sides look set to line up in a 3-5-2 shape, which should make this a genuine system-versus-system contest rather than one team imposing its structure on the other.

Torino’s back three of Cömert, Ismajli and Comuzzo will need to deal with Udinese’s front two of Gomez and Bayo, who both carry the pace to stretch a defence that has been breached in every game this season.

In the other direction, Udinese’s back three has shown similar fragility, and Torino’s wing-backs will look to get beyond Kamara and Vojvoda to supply Vlasic and Simeone in the box.

With both midfields set up with five across the middle, the battle for the second ball could decide which attack gets more sustained possession in the final third.
