Marseille consider Tochukwu Nnadi exit: 4 clubs that could sign Super Eagles star

Published on by

Olympique de Marseille are considering a January exit for Tochukwu Nnadi as they look to ease their financial problems.

The 23-year-old joined Marseille from Belgian side Zulte Waregem in February 2026 for a reported €6 million and signed a contract until June 2030.

However, Nnadi’s place in the team is far from secure. While the Super Eagles midfielder’s fortunes have improved on the football pitch, matters in the boardroom could push him out of the club.

Marseille are under pressure from French football’s financial watchdog, the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG), to balance their books and avoid possible sanctions, per GFFN.

The club are reportedly open to loan offers and permanent bids for the Nigerian when the January transfer window opens, although no final decision has been made.

Tochukwu Nnadi has shown what he can offer, playing the full 90 minutes and providing an assist in Marseille’s 5-2 win over Angers SCO. He also started in their 4-3 victory against Le Havre AC at the weekend.

However, competition for midfield places could limit his playing time when injured teammates return.

A move in January could give Nnadi the regular football he needs while Marseille could reduce their wage bill or raise funds through a transfer.

Clubs that could suit Tochukwu Nnadi

1. KRC Genk: A return to Belgium

A return to Belgium could make sense for Tochukwu Nnadi after his spell at Zulte Waregem.

The midfielder already knows the league, which could help him settle quickly and compete for a regular place in Genk’s team.

Genk have a history of developing young players, and a move there could give Tochukwu Nnadi the chance to rebuild his career after struggling to establish himself at Marseille.

A loan deal could suit both clubs, allowing Marseille to retain his long-term services while giving the Nigerian more playing time. A permanent transfer would depend on Genk’s interest and the fee Marseille demand.

2. RC Lens: Stay in Ligue 1

RC Lens could give Nnadi the chance to continue playing in France.

Lens are known for their high-energy approach, with midfielders expected to press opponents, win possession and move the ball quickly. Nnadi’s defensive work and excellent passing accuracy could make him a useful addition.

He would also avoid the disruption of moving to another country and adapting to a different league midway through the season.

A loan deal could give the Nigerian an opportunity to prove himself at another Ligue 1 club without Marseille having to sell him permanently.

3. Newcastle United: A Premier League challenge

Newcastle United would offer Nnadi the chance to test himself in the Premier League.

The Magpies have assembled a competitive squad, and the Nigerian’s defensive qualities, energy and ability to retain possession could appeal to a club looking to strengthen its midfield.

However, Newcastle’s established midfield options would make regular football difficult to guarantee. A move would carry the risk of Nnadi spending more time on the bench, particularly if the club signs him as a long-term prospect.

A move to England would only make sense for Nnadi if he has a realistic chance of playing regularly.

4. Crystal Palace: Another route into the Premier League

Crystal Palace could offer Tochukwu Nnadi a different route into English football.

The South London club could benefit from a midfielder who can win the ball, cover ground and help launch attacks after regaining possession. Those qualities could suit Nnadi’s game and give him a chance to compete for a place in the squad.

Palace need him more than most with the club 17th on the Premier League table and lacking the proper shield for a defence that has conceded 19 goals in 8 games.

Still, competition for places would still be a factor, and a transfer would not guarantee regular appearances.

Nevertheless, Palace could be worth considering if they need midfield reinforcements and Marseille are willing to negotiate a loan or permanent deal.
