“Many people will cry tonight” — Nigerians mock FC Barcelona as Lookman’s Atlético reach final

Published on by

Atlético Madrid bowed out 3–0 at home to FC Barcelona but still advanced 4–3 on aggregate thanks to a stunning 4–0 victory in the first leg, Afrik Foot reports.

Nigerian international Ademola Lookman played a key role in Atlético’s dominant first‑leg performance, and his countrymen took to social media in celebratory fashion as Atlético held on to book a spot in the final.

Barca’s spirited comeback — featuring a brace from Marc Bernal and a penalty from Raphinha — wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit.

This sparked reactions from Nigerian fans on X, many of whom directed playful taunts at Barcelona supporters while proudly celebrating Lookman’s achievement with Atlético.

Lookman’s Atlético survive FC Barcelona scare

The Catalan giants entered the second leg at Camp Nou determined to overturn a four‑goal deficit after their heavy home defeat in the first leg.

They struck early through Marc Bernal, who opened the scoring in the 29th minute, and added to their tally with a Raphinha penalty in first-half stoppage time.

Bernal completed his brace in the 72nd minute, giving Barcelona a 3–0 win on the night.

Despite the spirited comeback, Barcelona fell just short on aggregate, with Atlético Madrid advancing 4–3 into the Copa del Rey final.

The result was sealed amid tense moments in the closing stages, as Atlético defended resolutely to protect their advantage.

For Nigerian supporters, the story was as much about national pride as it was about football, especially given Lookman’s involvement in Atlético’s first-leg rout.

“Despite all the Ojoro” – Nigerian fan reaction

Following the final whistle, Nigerians flooded social media with a mix of pride, cheeky mockery and excitement — many choosing humour over heartbreak despite Barcelona’s late surge.

One fan, @BRE_remy (Remy), captured the jubilant mood in a playful post: “NOW THE DAY IS OVERRRR… My brother Ademola Lookman, at Atletico Madrid, knocked out Barcelona.”

Another supporter, @Benzonkartelrec (Benzon), blended admiration with wit, writing: “I’m proud of Barcelona today for molesting Atletico madrid but it was not enough. Congrats to our Yoruba demon Ademola Lookman I hope they win the final ‘cuz of him I be Naija boy na.”

On the same tone of triumphant celebration, @ImoPunter (BIG IMO) shared a clip with the caption: “Lookman dribbled past Yamal. Barcelona out. Atletico Madrid won.”

Meanwhile, @callmeoscar_1 (Oscar) added a humorous twist for Barcelona followers who had hoped to overturn the tie: “If Atletico Madrid can score 4, we can score 5”.

Lastly, @onlineguru__ (MR OLA) joked about his unusual attention on the match, noting, “This is the first time I’m watching a full‑time game that Chelsea is not playing. All because of Ademola Lookman. Despite all the ojoro to favour Barcelona, Atletico Madrid still triumph.”

As Atlético Madrid prepare for the final, Nigerian supporters will be eagerly watching, ready to cheer on Lookman in his bid to win silverware.
