Victor Osimhen’s much-anticipated debut for Turkish giants Galatasaray ended on a winning note, as the Super Eagles striker notched an assist in their 5-0 demolition of Caykur Rizespor.

The match, which featured another Nigerian star, midfielder Ibrahim Olawoyin on the opposing side, was one-sided from start to finish, with the reigning Turkish champions in total control.

Thrown straight into the starting lineup by Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk after returning from international duty with Nigeria, Osimhen wasted no time making an impact.

His presence was a constant source of trouble for the Rizespor defense, as he linked up well with his teammates.

Davidson Sánchez opened the scoring for Galatasaray, but Victor Osimhen came close to marking his debut with a goal of his own.

Rising high to meet a cross, Osimhen's flicked header seemed destined for the back of the net, only for teammate Abdülkerim Bardakcı to stretch out a leg and get the final touch before the ball crossed the line.

Bardakcı was credited with the goal, while the Nigeria international recorded the assist.

The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes in what was a commanding display from the reigning Turkish champions.

Osimhen’s performance was more than just about his assist, however. The striker completed eight of the nine passes he attempted, giving him a passing efficiency rate of 73 percent, with two of those setting up shooting opportunities.

In front of goal, the reigning CAF Player of the Year had one shot on target, two shots off target, and four of his efforts were blocked by the resilient Rizespor defence. He also completed all of his dribbling attempts, showcasing his ability to beat defenders with ease.

Osimhen was equally impressive in winning three out of four ground duels and three out of four aerial duels, demonstrating his physical presence and determination.

Though he missed one big chance to score, the Nigeria forward’s overall performance was a solid indicator of what he will bring to Galatasaray this season.
