Nwabali deserves better than us – Chippa United

Published on by

Chippa United chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi has revealed the possibility of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali departing from the club, mentioning ongoing negotiations with several overseas clubs.

He further emphasised that the Nigerian deserves better and that Chippa United would not stand in the way of his departure if a favourable offer arises.

The 27-year-old's reputation further surged after his exceptional performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024).

He usurped first-choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho's position, endearing himself to fans of the Super Eagles and neutrals alike.

Nwabali featured in every match as the Super Eagles advanced to the AFCON final, experiencing their only defeat against the hosts, Ivory Coast.

While the Super Eagles failed to clinch the coveted trophy, Nwabali was acknowledged as one of the team's important players.

His performances garnered interest from several clubs worldwide, reportedly eager to sign the Nigerian international.

Chippa United open to overseas offers for Stanley Nwabali, Chairman confirms

Speaking to iDiski Times, Mpengesi stated, “We are talking to a few clubs abroad. We also believe that he needs something better, especially after the performance that he showed at the AFCON. You know, being number two, they were runner-ups, he was number two, second best goalkeeper of AFCON. So, if the opportunity comes especially abroad, of course even if it comes locally and the offer is for him, it’s not even for us. If the offer for him is better then we are not going to hold on to him.”

Nwabali, who joined the South African side from Katsina United in 2022, has appeared in 22 matches across all competitions this season, with his club currently occupying 10th place on the PSL table.

Rumours swirl around potential moves for Nigerian Nwabali

Rumours are circulating that Nwabali is on the brink of a potential move to Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, potentially filling the gap left by Maxime Wensenns, who is reportedly eyeing a transfer to Turkey in the upcoming summer window.

There are also whispers of interest from undisclosed clubs in France and Italy, alongside South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, in the Super Eagles goalkeeper.

Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia are also reportedly keen to secure his services. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Saudi Professional League club Al-Ettifaq and Championship club Queens Park Rangers are also vying for the goalkeeper.
