David Okereke, the former Nigeria U-23 forward, was on target on Sunday afternoon as Gaziantep FK secured a 2-2 draw against Kasımpaşa in an exciting Turkish Süper Lig encounter.
The match got off to a lively start, with Kasımpaşa taking the lead in the 7th minute through Nuno Da Costa’s strike.
However, Gaziantep FK responded almost immediately as Okereke netted the equalizer just three minutes later.
He met Alexandru Maxim’s well-timed pass, and finished coolly to level the score at 1-1.
Despite the early setback, Kasımpaşa regained their advantage before half-time, with Da Costa scoring his second of the game in the 42nd minute.
Gaziantep FK, however, refused to back down and kept pressing for an equalizer.
Their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute when Halil Dervişoğlu fired home a crucial goal, ensuring that the visitors returned home with a share of the spoils.
Okereke's contribution has been vital for Gaziantep FK this season.
The 26-year-old has now scored five goals and provided two assists in 12 league appearances, underlining his importance to the team.
With the draw, Gaziantep FK remains eighth on the league table, accumulating 22 points after 14 games.
Okereke’s performance against Kasimpasa
David Okereke delivered an impressive performance in Gaziantep FK’s 2-2 draw against Kasımpaşa in the Turkish Süper Lig.
The 27-year-old forward played 86 minutes, scoring one of his team’s two goals.
Okereke registered two shots on target from three attempts and had 32 touches of the ball during the game.
Despite finding the net, he missed a significant opportunity to increase his goal tally.
The former Club Brugge striker successfully completed the only dribble he attempted and created two key chances for his teammates.
His passing was particularly sharp, completing 14 of his 17 attempts for an impressive 92% accuracy.
However, Okereke struggled in aerial duels, losing all four he contested.
On the ground, he was more effective, winning three out of the four duels he engaged in.
