Osayi-Samuel set for Fenerbahçe stay as Mourinho shows interest in working with Nigerian

Reports in Turkey indicate that Fenerbahçe are interested in extending the contract of Bright Osayi-Samuel, who has caught the interest of the club's new manager, José Mourinho.

He joined Fenerbahçe in January 2021 and quickly rose to become a key player for the Turkish top-flight side. Since moving to Turkey, Osayi-Samuel has settled in seamlessly and excelled, transitioning smoothly from winger to right-back.

With his current contract expiring in June 2025, Fenerbahçe hierarchy is taking proactive measures to extend it to prevent him from leaving for free. Earlier reports indicated that the Nigerian international had requested to leave in the summer.

However, Turkish outlet Fanatik reported on Sunday that Fenerbahçe is keen on extending Osayi-Samuel's contract beyond its current term.

Contract Negotiations between Fenerbahçe and Osayi-Samuel continue

The Yellow-Navy Blue team has initiated contract extension negotiations with Osayi-Samuel. Currently earning a net annual salary of €1.8 million Euros, Fenerbahçe has proposed a new deal with a net annual salary of €2.5 million for Osayi-Samuel.

Although discussions are ongoing, no agreement has been reached yet. Both parties are expected to meet this week in hopes of finding a compromise.

The 26-year-old, as per Turkish outlet Sabah, has been on the radar of several English clubs for months.

Despite a strong campaign both personally and for Fenerbahçe, there is a sense that the full-back remains unsettled in Turkey.

In mid-March, Osayi-Samuel and a few of his teammates were involved in a post-match brawl with a pitch invader, leading to disciplinary proceedings with the league administration before he was ultimately cleared.

These incidents, along with the aforementioned interest, seem to have strengthened his resolve to return to English football.

In the recently concluded 2023/24 Turkish Super Lig season, Osayi-Samuel scored four goals and provided one assist in 23 games.
