Osimhen 9.2, Chukwueze 8.3: Ranking top five-rated Nigerian performances over the weekend

Several Nigerian stars shone for their respective clubs over the weekend, but it was Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze who had their name up in lights, Afrik-Foot reports.

Victor Osimhen led the way with a stunning 9.2 rating, while Samuel Chukwueze proved he’s learning the wing-back role properly under Ruben Amorim.

With several Nigerian players finding the net and others producing standout displays between the posts and in defence, FotMob’s ratings offer an interesting snapshot of the country’s best individual performances.

Five highest-rated Nigerian displays from the weekend

1. Victor Osimhen – 9.2

There was little doubt about the number one spot after Osimhen produced another devastating attacking display for Galatasaray.

The Super Eagles striker scored twice and added an assist in Galatasaray’s 4-0 victory, earning a 9.2 FotMob rating.

Osimhen’s performance underlined why he remains one of the most feared forwards in European football.

Surprisingly, he completed just nine of his ten passes, and his two shots in the game found the back of the net.

2. Samuel Chukwueze – 8.3

Chukwueze’s inclusion at number two is particularly interesting because of the role he was asked to perform.

The AC Milan winger started as a wing-back against Torino and produced an impressive performance in an unfamiliar position, including an assist for Adrien Rabiot’s winning goal in the 2-1 victory.

His 8.3 FotMob rating reflected more than his attacking contribution. Chukwueze also showed encouraging defensive discipline, an area he has been expected to improve since Ruben Amorim began experimenting with him further back.

The Nigerian created four chances and won 60% of his ground duels, making six recoveries.

3. Arthur Okonkwo – 8.3

Okonkwo matched Chukwueze’s rating with an outstanding display for Charlton Athletic.

The goalkeeper made eight saves to help Charlton secure a 2-1 victory, producing the kind of debut performance that immediately puts him in the conversation to become Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.

An 8.3 rating from FotMob made Okonkwo one of the highest-performing goalkeepers in the World over the weekend. He also made 14 recoveries.

4. Semi Ajayi – 8.2

Ajayi enjoyed one of the most memorable weekends of his career. The Hull City defender scored his first Premier League goal in more than five years as his side stunned Manchester United 2-0.

His 8.2 FotMob rating reflects a performance that combined his defensive responsibilities with the decisive moment that helped Hull secure a famous victory.

While he’d have hoped to have completed the game to help solidify a record victory, the 32-year-old pulled his hamstring and had to be replaced.

5. Rafiu Durosinmi – 7.5

Durosinmi completes the top five after scoring for Genk in their entertaining 4-4 draw with Antwerp.

The Nigerian striker’s goal earned him a 7.5 FotMob rating, continuing an encouraging start to life with the Belgian club, his third goal in three games since joining the Belgian Pro League side.

While his rating falls some distance short of Osimhen’s remarkable 9.2, Durosinmi’s inclusion highlights the depth of Nigerian attacking talent making an impact across Europe.

The bigger picture

The weekend offered plenty of reasons for optimism around the Super Eagles.

Osimhen and Durosinmi scored, Chukwueze provided an assist from a new position, Ajayi delivered against Manchester United, while Okonkwo produced an eight-save masterclass.

Chidera Ejuke and Nathan Tella also found the net for Sevilla and Bayer Leverkusen respectively, but their FotMob ratings were not enough to break into the top five.
