Osimhen vs Jackson: 3 reasons Tottenham should choose the Super Eagles star

Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur remain in the market for a new centre-forward and have been strongly linked with a move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen ahead of the new season, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 2025 UEFA Europa League winners are keen to strengthen their attack this summer amid uncertainty surrounding Richarlison’s future, while there are also concerns over whether Dominic Solanke can remain fit throughout the entire campaign.

That search has seen Tottenham identify Osimhen as their top choice, with the North London club planning to make an official bid in the coming days. 

However, the 27-year-old is not the only striker on their shortlist. Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has also been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer.

According to Sky Sports, via Tribal Football, Jackson is not currently part of Tottenham’s transfer plans, although that situation could still change before the end of the summer window.

While either striker would improve Tottenham’s attack, Osimhen appears to be the stronger option for several reasons.

Super Eagles star is a proven goalscorer

The Nigerian striker has shown remarkable consistency in front of goal and has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most reliable finishers with impressive numbers throughout his career.

Since joining Galatasaray on loan in the summer of 2024 before making the move permanent for a Turkish record €75 million fee last summer, Osimhen has scored 59 goals in 74 appearances across all competitions.

His movement and composure inside the penalty area make him a striker capable of delivering goals consistently and with his quality, he has all the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League. 

Osimhen’s physicality and workrate gives him an edge over Jackson

Another reason Tottenham could prioritize Osimhen over Jackson is his relentless work rate and physical presence.

The Nigerian striker is known for pressing defenders and putting in much energy in games, with his intensity a strong part of his game.

While Jackson is capable of holding up the ball and linking play, he does not consistently bring the same level of aggression and intensity that Osimhen offers. The Super Eagles striker’s strength allows him to compete with defenders, win physical battles and hold up play effectively and those qualities would fit well into Tottenham’s attacking system.

Osimhen offers more aerial threat

The 27-year-old’s aerial ability gives him another important advantage over Jackson. Osimhen has repeatedly shown how dangerous he can be in the air, using his height and athleticism to score goals and create problems for opposition defenders.

He consistently attacks crosses, wins aerial duels and provides a genuine target in the penalty area, which could add another dimension to Tottenham’s attack.

His aerial strength is also very important defensively, as he can help the team deal with opposition set-pieces by winning headers inside his own penalty area. That all-round aerial presence makes him a very complete striker and a better fit for Tottenham’s needs.

Although both Osimhen and Jackson continue to be linked with the North London club, the Super Eagles striker currently appears to be the more suitable option if Spurs decide to sign a new centre-forward before the deadline.
