Victor Osimhen: 3 milestones unlocked after Galatasaray brace against Çorum FK

Published on by

Victor Osimhen started the 2026/27 Turkish Süper Lig season with two goals, but his brace could only earn Galatasaray a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Çorum FK at RAMS Park on Friday night, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Arsenal-linked Super Eagles striker struck in the 53rd minute to put the Turkish champions ahead before scoring again in the 90th minute to rescue a point after Çorum had turned the game around.

The result was disappointing for Galatasaray, who are chasing a fifth straight league title. But Osimhen’s two goals created several milestones around his growing record in Turkey.

Here are three of them.

Osimhen scored the first goal of the 2026/27 Süper Lig season

Top-earning Osimhen opened the scoring in the 53rd minute after Lucas Torreira found him with a looping pass. The striker controlled the ball before finishing from a tight angle.

That made Osimhen the first player to score in the new Süper Lig campaign, which began with Galatasaray’s meeting with Çorum at RAMS Park. It was also a sharp start to a season in which Galatasaray are defending the league title for a fourth consecutive time.

He recorded his first Matchday 1 brace for Galatasaray

The two goals gave Osimhen a two-goal haul on the opening matchday of a Süper Lig season for the first time with Galatasaray.

That was a major change from the previous campaign. Osimhen did not score in Galatasaray’s opening league game against Gaziantep in August 2025 because he was not included in the squad after returning late to pre-season. He made his first appearance of that campaign as a substitute against Fatih Karagümrük before scoring his first league goal of the season against Kayserispor.

His first Galatasaray brace had also arrived much later in the 2024/25 campaign, when he scored twice in a 3-3 draw with Kasımpaşa on September 28. This time, he needed only one league match to produce a brace.

He scored against a club playing its first-ever Süper Lig match

Çorum FK’s trip to Istanbul was historic before a ball was kicked. The club had secured promotion to the Süper Lig for the first time in its history after beating Esenler Erokspor 2-0 in the 1. Lig play-off final in May.

Osimhen then became the first Galatasaray player to score against Çorum in the Turkish top flight. His 53rd-minute strike was also Çorum’s first goal conceded in its Süper Lig history. He added another in the 90th minute, meaning both of Galatasaray’s goals in the club’s historic top-flight debut came from the Nigerian forward.

Galatasaray’s next home match is against Goztepe, sandwiched between two away trips to Erzurumspor and Istanbul Basaksehir.
