Super Eagles: Millwall make transfer demand for Femi Azeez — key condition revealed

Millwall have made their stance clear on the future of Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez as interest continues to grow ahead of a possible summer transfer, Afrik-Foot reports.

Azeez’s future has been uncertain since the end of last season after the Nigerian winger made it clear that he wants to test himself in the Premier League. 

The 25-year-old has since attracted interest from several clubs, with Aston Villa, Ipswich Town and, most recently, Hull City all showing an interest in signing him. That interest comes after an outstanding campaign in which Azeez established himself as one of Millwall’s most important players and one of the standout performers in the Championship.

The Super Eagles forward finished the season with 11 goals and seven assists and was also named in the PFA Championship Team of the Season. However, despite his importance to the club, Azeez could still leave Millwall before the transfer window closes.

Millwall coach reveals condition for Azeez’s exit

Millwall have already rejected an offer from Ipswich for Azeez, but that has not stopped further interest in the Nigerian. Hull City are now believed to be leading the race for his signature and are keen to complete a deal for the forward.

However, Millwall head coach Alex Neil has made it clear that the club will not allow Azeez to leave for a cheap price and insisted that any club interested in signing the Super Eagles star must meet Millwall’s valuation before they will consider sanctioning his departure.

“When the window’s open I don’t think we ever get distracted. Good players attract interest, it’s as simple as that,” Neil told NewsAtDen, via Tribal Football.

“It’s no secret that in January Femi had interest and bids made for him. Jimmy, supporting the team, the club, myself, decided he wasn’t taking any bids for any of our key players at that moment, which was great. It allowed us to then go finish third and Femi was a fundamental part of that.

“But like every player, every player’s got their price. What I will say is that if anybody is trying to undercut us or go cheap on it, then we don’t need to sell anybody. It puts us in a strong position in that sense.”

The Millwall boss also believes Azeez is worth every penny given the level of performances he has produced over the last two seasons in the Championship.

Azeez was particularly influential last season as Millwall reached the Championship play-off semi-finals before eventually being eliminated by Hull City.

“I’m surprised, honestly, that there’s not been a bit of an auction on Femi to this point. You buy goals and assists, and Femi has been as good as anybody in the last season or two at this level.

“Let’s see what the next few weeks bring”, Neil concluded.

Hull City lead the race for Super Eagles star

Newly promoted Premier League side Hull City are keen to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season and have identified Azeez as a player capable of improving their attack.

The Tigers have already missed out on several targets this summer, but they remain very keen on completing a deal for the Super Eagles star and do not want to miss out on him as well.

They still have time to negotiate a transfer before the Premier League season begins, giving them an opportunity to reach an agreement with Millwall and complete the move.

However, Hull City would need to meet Millwall’s £20 million valuation to convince the Championship club to sanction his departure and Azeez’s desire to experience Premier League football could also make personal terms less difficult to negotiate.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles forward is expected to feature for Millwall as they begin their Championship campaign at Bristol City later today, in what could be his final game for the club.
