Victor Osimhen’s Super Lig title party delayed as Galatasaray stumble at Samsunspor

Victor Osimhen’s title party will have to wait a little longer after Galatasaray suffered a heavy setback in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday night, Afrik-Foot reports.

The league leaders were beaten 4-1 away at Samsunspor on Saturday evening, a result that denied them the chance to mathematically seal the championship with two games still to play.

Going into the match, Galatasaray knew that a win would confirm their 26th league title. Instead, they produced one of their most fragile performances of the season, allowing the title race to remain alive.

Despite the defeat, they still sit top of the table with 74 points from 32 matches. Fenerbahçe, who won 3-1 against Istanbul Başakşehir on the same day, have now reduced the gap to four points. Trabzonspor remain third on 66 points.

The evening actually began well for Galatasaray, with Victor Osimhen playing a key role in the opening goal. In the 9th minute, the Nigerian striker slipped a clever pass into Yunus Akgün, who finished from a tight angle to give the visitors an early lead.

At that point, it looked like business as usual for the runaway leaders. However, the momentum quickly shifted as Samsunspor responded with intensity and purpose. Marius Mouandilmadji drew the hosts level before the break, and Galatasaray’s defensive structure began to wobble under sustained pressure.

The second half turned into a nightmare for the visitors. Cherif Ndiaye and Mouandilmadji both added further goals, each finishing with a brace as Samsunspor took full control of the contest.

The defining moment came in the 63rd minute when Galatasaray goalkeeper Günay Güvenç was shown a straight red card. Reduced to 10 men, the league leaders had no way back, and the hosts punished them with ruthless efficiency to seal a convincing 4-1 victory.

Title race still alive but advantage Galatasaray

While the defeat was damaging, it has not derailed Galatasaray’s title charge completely. They remain firmly in control of their destiny and need just one win from their final two matches to secure the crown.
