New Palmeiras signing Jhon Arias has defended his stint in the English Premier League, using Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare as a benchmark, Afrik-Foot reports.
Arias completed a €25 million move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Brazilian giants Palmeiras earlier in the week. Recall that he only just moved from Fluminense to the Premier League last summer. But he opted to return to his native Brazil because of his struggles in England.
Arias addressed the media in his first press conference at Palmeiras, and he was asked about his perceived failure to adapt to English football.

However, Arias was quick to dismiss it, as he noted that the team has been struggling with goals all season.
In an interesting comparison, Arias said that the difference between his number of goals and that of the club’s current top striker is very little.

“The Wolverhampton top scorer in the Premier League, (Tolu Arokodare), has two goals; I scored one,” Arias stated.
Arias’ comments aren’t far from the truth, as Wolverhampton Wanderers have been the worst team in the English top-flight this season. They currently sit rock-bottom, having picked just nine points from 26 games.
They have also struggled for goals this season, scoring his 16 and conceding 48.
Has Tolu Arokodare Failed At Wolverhampton Wanderers?
Tolu Arokodare arrived at Wolves from Belgian side Genk with high expectations after two impressive campaigns in the Jupiler Pro League. But unfortunately, he has found himself thrust into a hopeless relegation battle.

The Nigerian striker struggled for playing time in the first half of the season. But in this second half, he has been tasked with leading the line for Wolves following the departure of Jorgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace.
But the goals have been hard to come by for not just him, but the entire squad.
Arias’ decision to use Arokodare—a player currently heralded as a key piece of the Wolves attack—as a yardstick just shows how bad the team has been this season.

The club look doomed for relegation already. But for some of the players, including Arokodare, the targets would be personal now. He has to keep playing well and hope that his performance catches the eyes of one of the top sides in England or possibly one of the other top five leagues.
Arokodare has not failed at Wolves, he has just been unfortunate to be at the club at such a bad time.
