Paul Onuachu linked to Corum: 2 reasons this transfer will not happen

Published on by

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has become a major talking point at Trabzonspor following his impressive campaign, Afrik-Foot reports.

Onuachu was joint-best striker in Turkey last season, registering 26 goals and two assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

He was the main reason for the Black Sea Storm’s third-place finish in the Super Lig and their success in the Turkish Cup.

As a result of his stellar campaign, the Nigerian forward has attracted interest from several clubs both within and outside Turkey.

Saudi Arabian giants Al-Ahli are keen on the towering Nigerian as they look to revamp their attack, with reports indicating they are willing to offer a massive pay bump.

There have also been links to Wolfsburg, Besiktas, and Fenerbahce. Most recently, newly-promoted Super Lig side Corum have entered the race for Onuachu’s services as they look to add quality to compete at the top level.

However, the transfer appears highly unlikely. In this article, we highlight two reasons why the move will not happen.

Why Paul Onuachu Will Not Join Corum

Trabzonspor value their 32-year-old Super Eagles striker highly and will not let him leave unless they receive a massive offer and the player explicitly expresses a desire to exit.

The club has already informed potential suitors that they will not accept any bid under €30 million. That is an exorbitant fee for a newly-promoted Turkish club to spend on a 32-year-old.

Additionally, meeting the Super Eagles star’s wage demands would present a major hurdle for a club of their stature. Onuachu earns just under €50k per week, meaning any move would require a substantial financial package to tempt him away.

Moreover, financial compensation is only one of very few reasons that a player of his status would leave a championship club for a newly-promoted side.

It is also worth noting that all the other clubs linked with Onuachu are bigger than Corum and boast of superior player quality capable of supporting his success.

At Corum, the burden would fall entirely on him to deliver consistently. He would miss the strong supporting cast he currently enjoys at Trabzonspor, as well as the quality teammates he would find at any of the other interested clubs.

As it stands, pinning down Onuachu’s next destination remains difficult. However, a player of his age is naturally expected to prioritize the most lucrative financial package as he approaches the twilight of his career. Clarity on his future is expected in the coming days.
