France legend Petit already dreaming of Osimhen partnership with unsettled Chelsea star

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has tacitly endorsed the Blues' pursuit of Victor Osimhen.

The 1998 World Cup winner, in describing the perfect striker for the Stamford Bridge outfit, gave a description that closely approximated the Napoli striker's profile.

Petit highlighted the importance of a focal point in attack, not only in terms of finishing chances, but also for platforming other players currently on Chelsea's books.

Mentioned in particular was France international Christopher Nkunku, who moved to Stamford Bridge in a big money transfer last summer but, due to injury, has struggled to find his feet in London.

Petit talks up potential of a Victor Osimhen partnership with Nkunku

“Definitely [they need a striker] but don't forget that Nkunku is back. I'm not sure that he is best as a striker; they need to bring in a proper striker,” Petit told UK outlet Sports Mole.

“Someone that can finish actions and be present in the penalty area and bring a physical presence as well. They can be very good in terms of asking for the ball in behind the defenders.

“Nkunku at the moment is doing well, but this is not his best position; his best is right behind the strikers.”

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Victor Osimhen in recent weeks, with reports suggesting a potential three-way swap deal involving the Nigerian striker, Romelu Lukaku, and Cesare Casadei. The Blues are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements after a disappointing campaign last season.

While the club have invested heavily in recent transfer windows, they have struggled to find a consistent goalscorer. With the likes of Lukaku and Armando Broja expected to leave Stamford Bridge, the signing of a top-class striker is seen as a priority for new manager Enzo Maresca.
