Who is Prosper Obah: The €20m Nigerian star wanted by Coventry, Southampton, Middlesbrough?

Several clubs in England are keeping a close watch on Nigeria and Shakhtar Donetsk winger Prosper Obah after his eye-catching performances in Ukraine this season, Afrik-Foot reports.

Transfer expert Ekrem Konur reports that Championship sides Coventry City and Middlesbrough, along with Premier League outfit Southampton, have been closely monitoring the 22-year-old attacker.

Scouts from these clubs have reportedly attended several matches this season to study his performances. Their focus has been on his explosive speed, physical strength and ability to play in different attacking roles.

Obah is naturally a winger but can play on both sides of the attack. He is also comfortable operating as an attacking midfielder or a supporting forward, making him a flexible option for teams that value quick and direct attacking play.

The Nigerian youngster has enjoyed a strong campaign. In 20 appearances this season, he has already contributed 12 goal involvements, scoring eight times and providing four assists.

His performances have also caught the attention of clubs outside of England. Clubs in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands are also said to be monitoring his progress as the season continues.

Shakhtar signed Obah in January 2026 from Ukrainian side LNZ Cherkasy on a contract that runs until 2030. The club reportedly sees him as one of its most valuable young assets and a potential major transfer in the future. If negotiations begin, reports suggest his transfer fee could be around €15–20 million.

Prosper Obah: From Umuahia to European football

Obah’s journey into professional football began in Nigeria. He was born on 24 November 2003 in Umuahia, where he spent his early years and attended Evangel High School.

Like many Nigerian youngsters, he started playing football on local pitches before joining the youth academy of Supreme Kings FC. His talent soon became clear, especially his pace and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations.

In 2022, he took an important step in his career when he moved to Europe to join the youth setup of Portuguese club FC Vizela. His progress there was steady, and before the 2024–25 season he was promoted to the senior team.

Obah made 32 league appearances for Vizela and scored five goals, gaining valuable experience in European football.

He later moved to Ukraine to join LNZ Cherkasy, where he enjoyed a productive spell, scoring seven goals in 15 league matches. That form quickly caught the attention of Shakhtar, one of Ukraine’s biggest clubs, who signed him in 2026.

Known for his lightning pace, close ball control and powerful shooting, Obah has quickly developed a reputation as an exciting attacking talent. If he continues his current progress, a move to England could be the next big chapter in his rapidly rising career.
