Rasheedat Ajibade: 5 key games Super Falcons captain will miss for PSG women

Published on by

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering what appears to be a ligament injury.

The 26-year-old was stretchered off after 23 minutes during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie yesterday evening.

The result secured a 7-0 aggregate win for the Super Falcons, but Ajibade’s injury cast a shadow over the victory.

According to SavidNews, preliminary medical findings following an X-ray examination in Lagos suggest that the PSG forward could be out for at least two months.

The report adds that Ajibade has been flown to Paris for further medical examinations to determine the full extent of the injury. Her recovery timeline remains uncertain until those assessments are completed.

If the reported two-month absence is confirmed, Ajibade could miss several key games for PSG.

PSG’s upcoming schedule offers little respite, with several important matches falling within the potential recovery period. Here are five fixtures that could be affected by the Nigerian international’s absence.

1. Manchester City vs PSG — October 29

The UEFA Women’s Champions League meeting with Manchester City is one of the biggest fixtures Ajibade could miss.

The Parisian side will travel to England for the league-phase encounter, where her attacking versatility and ability to carry the ball forward could have been valuable against a major European opponent.

Ajibade has already contributed goals in PSG’s campaign, with two of her four goals coming in the Champions League, and losing her for the City game would deprive the French side of an option who can operate across the forward line.

2. Paris FC vs PSG — November 1

The Paris derby follows just three days later, giving PSG little time to recover from their European assignment before returning to domestic action.

The meeting with Paris FC carries local significance and comes during a demanding stretch of the season. Ajibade’s potential absence would limit PSG’s attacking options in a fixture where the club will be keen to maintain their position at the top of the league alongside Lyon.

The short gap between the Manchester City and Paris FC games also highlights the challenge PSG could face if the Nigerian remains unavailable.

3. PSG vs Bayern Munich — November 10

Bayern Munich’s visit to Paris is another important European test that could come too soon for Ajibade.

The Champions League fixture is scheduled for November 10, less than a month after the injury she sustained against Comoros.

If her recovery extends towards the full two-month period reported by SavidNews, the forward could still be unavailable for the encounter.

PSG would have to navigate the match without one of their Nigerian attacking options and leaders, although the club’s medical assessment will ultimately determine her availability.

4. Marseille vs PSG — November 14

Four days after the Bayern game, PSG are scheduled to face Marseille in the Première Ligue Féminine.

The fixture adds another demanding assignment to a period in which the club will be balancing domestic ambitions with their European campaign.

Ajibade’s absence could be felt across consecutive matches, especially if PSG need to rotate their attacking options.

5. PSG vs Chelsea — November 18

Chelsea’s visit to Paris is probably the most significant European match Ajibade could miss.

The Champions League encounter is scheduled for November 18, just over five weeks after her injury against Comoros.

Chelsea will provide another high-level test for PSG, as they’ve won the WSL nine times, making the availability of experienced attacking players very important.

If Ajibade has not recovered by then, the Nigerian could miss a third Champions League fixture in this run, following the meetings with Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
