Trabzonspor have expressed their unwillingness to push the boat out for 30-year-old Paul Onuachu, with club president Ertuğrul Doğan citing the player’s age as the primary reason for not meeting Southampton's the financial demands.
The towering forward joined Trabzonspor on loan last season following a challenging start at Southampton. His stint in Turkey marked a significant resurgence, with Onuachu finding his form and contributing to 21 goals in 25 appearances—netting 17 and providing four assists.
Upon the conclusion of his loan, Trabzonspor showed keen interest in securing a permanent transfer. However, their initial offer of €8 million, plus €2 million in performance-related bonuses, was rejected by the English club, who have set a €15 million price tag for the Nigeria international.
As the transfer window narrows, the club remain cautious about investing heavily in an older player, despite Onuachu's proven abilities.
Trabzonspor president addresses Paul Onuachu transfer
“Onuachu was a player who played for us on loan last season. His club insistently demands around €15 million. We offered €8 million with bonuses,” Doğan said, as per NTV Spor.
“Trabzonspor cannot give €15 million to a football player right now. A player who is 20-22 years old, it is our coach's request, then it will be considered. However, Trabzonspor cannot make such an offer to a 30-year-old player.
“The situation is clear. We will wait and see.”
Despite joining Southampton for preseason, Paul Onuachu has yet to feature in the club’s current campaign.
He has missed the team’s three Premier League matches to date, in which Southampton have endured three defeats and are currently placed 19th on the table, just above Everton.
