Lagos-born Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive Belgian Pro League form on Sunday, assisting in KRC Genk’s 2-0 victory over Royal Antwerp at Cegeka Arena.
The 1.97 m (6 ft 6 in) forward, typically known for his goal-scoring prowess, played a crucial role as a creator, recording his second assist in 13 games and bringing his season tally to 10 goal contributions (eight goals, two assists).
Genk’s opener came just after halftime in the 46th minute, with Arokodare demonstrating his versatility. Positioned well within the box, he headed a pass that found Patrik Hrosovsky, who finished deftly with his left foot, slotting the ball into the top right corner.
Although Arokodare had earlier attempts thwarted—a blocked shot in the 37th minute and a saved effort in the 16th minute—he kept up the pressure, showcasing his physical presence and keen positioning.
The 23-year-old’s contribution was capped after 73 minutes, with the Nigerian forward subbed off for Hyun-gyu Oh. His outing further solidifies his rank as the league’s most productive forward, edging out Sint-Truiden's Adriano Bertaccini and Cercle Brugge's Kevin Denkey, each with eight goal contributions.
Arokodare’s performance by numbers
Throughout the match, Arokodare‘s stats highlighted both his offensive and defensive work rate. He clocked in 32 touches and a 76% pass accuracy rate (16/21), with one key pass and two successful long balls.
In duels, he was highly involved, winning two of five ground contests and two of five aerial challenges. Although he missed one big chance, he registered a 0.56 xG for his shots on target.
With Genk now seven points clear of second-place Club Brugge, Arokodare’s consistency underscores his integral role in Genk’s title campaign, keeping them atop the standings with 31 points from 13 matches.
