Ryan Alebiosu: Super Eagles defender suffers injury blow as Rovers chase Championship safety

Super Eagles and Blackburn Rovers right wing-back Ryan Alebiosu has picked up an injury ahead of his side’s clash against Championship table-toppers Coventry City, Afrik Foot reports.

The 24-year-old has played twelve 90-minute games since the end of the AFCON 2025 tournament, but played just 45 minutes against Southampton last week.

Alebiosu was withdrawn at half-time, and Rovers coach Michael O’Neill has weighed in on the defender’s situation.

Ryan Alebiosu in doubt for Blackburn Rovers clash vs Coventry City

Blackburn Rovers are currently 20th on the EFL Championship table, four points above the relegation spot.

Ahead of the clash against League Champions Coventry, Michael O’Neill revealed Alebiosu is a doubt to face Frank Lampard’s side.

“Forshaw and Cantwell were both injured,” O’Neill said. “Alebiosu also had to be taken out.”

“We had to take him out. We will have to wait and see. I don’t have any medical news I can give you.

“Ryan got injured in a collision. He was struggling with his ribs and his back. We’ve just got to see.

“We just felt it was too big a risk, given what lies ahead, because we could possibly jeopardise him for the rest of the season.

“The schedule is incredibly difficult. Obviously, we had a tough game at the weekend at Stoke. We flew here yesterday afternoon,” the 56-year-old said in quotes revealed by the Lancashire Telegraph.

Rovers are currently four points above Oxford United, and need to win two of their next three games to guarantee safety in the Championship.
