Akor Adams’ wait for a Super Eagles debut has been extended after injury struck at the worst possible moment.
The Sevilla forward has been ruled out of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, giving Eric Chelle a fresh headache ahead of next week’s camp in Uyo.
Adams pulled up with a muscle injury to his left thigh during Sevilla’s defeat to Getafe last weekend. The club confirmed on Wednesday that he will also sit out their upcoming LaLiga clash against Girona.

Adams’ first Super Eagles invitation also ended in frustration
His absence for country, though, carries heavier consequence: this was only Akor Adams' second call-up by the three-time African champions, and once again, his body has betrayed him.
The 24-year-old joined Sevilla from Montpellier in January but has struggled to stay fit. When available, Adams’ size, movement and eye for goal provide a tantalising option for Nigeria. However, fitness concerns continue to keep that promise at arm’s length.

The former U-20 star’s misfortune is not new. When he was first called up in March 2025 for World Cup qualifiers, he sustained a tendon injury while training with Sevilla.
That setback meant he never reported to the Super Eagles camp and was ultimately omitted from the final 23-man list. Twice invited, twice denied, the striker remains on the outside looking in.
