Three-time African champions have had the upper hand against Rwanda in past meetings.

The two sides have met eight times over the years, with Nigeria winning three of the fixtures, drawing four and losing one.

The last time the two teams met, Nigeria defeated Rwanda 2-0 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali in a FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen scored twice to give Nigeria the win.

Nigeria FIFA World Cup qualifying schedule, results

The Super Eagles were drawn in Group C alongside South Africa, Rwanda, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Benin.

Nigeria started their campaign with a draw against Lesotho, followed by another stalemate with Zimbabwe.

They then drew South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, while Benin handed them their first defeat in the World Cup qualifiers after coming from behind to win 2-1 at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The Super Eagles then got some reprieve with a 2-0 away win in Rwanda on Match day five of the qualifiers to ease frayed nerves.

However, they hit a dent when they were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom-placed Zimbabwe, which further dented Nigeria's World Cup hopes.

Only one team will secure an automatic 2026 FIFA World Cup spot, while the second-placed team will have to go through a playoff stage for a chance to qualify.
