Arne Slot reveals Victor Osimhen’s top 3 qualities that could hurt Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted his players will pay special attention to Victor Osimhen when they face Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Turkish champions host Liverpool at RAMS Park in Istanbul in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie. On paper, Liverpool appear the stronger side, but Galatasaray have already shown they can cause problems for the English club.

The Turkish side last reached this stage of the competition 13 years ago, but they already have a recent victory over Liverpool to boost their confidence.

When both teams met in the group stage last year, Liverpool were widely tipped to win. Instead, Galatasaray produced a shock result, beating the Reds 1-0 in Istanbul.

Victor Osimhen scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot after Barış Alper was brought down early in the match. The Nigerian striker calmly fired his kick down the middle to beat Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

Since then, Osimhen has continued to shine in the Champions League. The Super Eagles forward has scored seven goals in eight matches in the competition, while also providing two assists. He has also impressed in games against strong opponents such as Juventus and Ajax.

With that record, Osimhen will once again be Galatasaray’s main attacking threat as they try to upset Liverpool for a second time.

Slot highlights Victor Osimhen’s key strengths

Slot admitted that Osimhen caught Liverpool off guard in their previous meeting. But he believes his team now understands the danger posed by the Nigerian striker.

The Dutch coach also pointed to three main qualities that make Osimhen such a difficult player for defenders to deal with.

Victor Osimhen is a finisher in the penalty area, very good in the air, and also very good in transition play,” Arne Slot said at the pre-match press conference as per TRT Spor.

Slot also warned that Liverpool must not ignore the threat from Galatasaray winger Barış Alper Yılmaz, whose pace troubled his team in their last meeting.

Barış Alper was too fast for us in the last match. There were moments when we couldn’t keep up with him. Now we know them. We know how quality they are.”

Despite playing outside Europe’s traditional top leagues, Osimhen remains one of the most talked-about strikers on the continent.

The 27-year-old has already scored 11 goals in the Turkish Super Lig this season, placing him among the league’s top scorers.

More importantly, he has delivered when it matters most. Osimhen scored the only goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win over Istanbul rivals Besiktas on Saturday, continuing his impressive form.

The striker has now been directly involved in 10 goals in his last nine appearances for Galatasaray, scoring six of those himself. One of those strikes came away to Juventus last month, his seventh goal in this season’s Champions League.

With Liverpool still searching for defensive consistency, Slot knows his side must be careful. If Osimhen is given even a small chance in Istanbul, the Nigerian striker has already shown he has the quality to punish them.
