Former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard has shut down calls about Arokodare committing a crucial foul in Wolves’ 2-1 win over Arne Slot’s side, Afrik Foot reports.

The Super Eagles striker came off the bench at the Molineux just before the half-hour mark, before setting up Rodrigo Gomes’ opener in the 78th minute.

Mo Salah levelled the score five minutes later before a 94th-minute strike from Andre sealed all three points from Rob Edwards side.

However, there were calls for a foul in the build-up to the first goal after Tolu Arokodare outmuscled Virgil van Dijk.

Gerrard played over 700 games for Liverpool, but was on punditry duties at the Molinuex last night.

He opined that Arokodare’s challenge was squeaky clean and that Van Dijk needed to be stronger in the air.

“I don’t think it’s a foul [from Arokodare], he has to be stronger in that situation,” the one-time UEFA Champions League winner said on TNT Sports.

“I also think that Konate could’ve bailed him out of trouble. I think he’s gone with the wrong leg, trying to tackle with his left in that situation.

“I think he has to use his right foot to wrap his leg right around the ball, but it’s clutching at straws to ask for a foul.

“You’re up against a big, strong substitute who came off the bench. He’s the focal point. You know he’s going to be physical and try to dominate, so he has to be ready for that.

“I think he [Van Dijk] will be disappointed watching that back,” the Liverpool legend concluded.

Wolves have secured back-to-back wins for the first time in the Premier League this season, but getting out of the relegation zone with ten games to spare is still a chore.
