Super Eagles vice captain and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Player of the Tournament, William Troost-Ekong, has inked a two-year deal with Saudi Arabia Super League side Al Kholood.
This move marks another significant chapter in the career of the 30-year-old defender, who has opted to join the growing contingent of players moving to the Middle East.
Troost-Ekong recently moved to Greek side PAOK Salonika from English club Watford. However, after receiving an enticing offer, he decided to take his talents to Saudi Arabia.

Initially linked with another Saudi club, Al Ahli, Troost-Ekong ultimately chose the newly promoted Al Kholood, a decision that will see him benefit from a substantial increase in his wages, which will be tax-free.
Troost-Ekong: From AFCON heights with Super Eagles to injury nightmare
The Nigeria international has had a tumultuous year.
After leading the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at AFCON 2024 in the Ivory Coast and being named Player of the Tournament, Troost-Ekong suffered a season-ending injury. The campaign ended in success for the Greek side, however, as they claimed the league title.
Upon his recovery, the former Watford man played a pivotal role for PAOK Salonika in their UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Before his departure, he will still feature for PAOK in a crucial Champions League qualifier first leg against Swedish side Malmo. Once that commitment is fulfilled, he will head to Saudi Arabia to formalize his move to Al Kholood on a two-year contract, with an option for a third year.
Last season, Al Kholood finished third in the Saudi second division, accumulating 62 points from 34 matches to secure promotion to the Saudi Pro League.
Troost-Ekong’s addition to Al Kholood is seen as a significant coup for the club, as his leadership, defensive prowess, and international experience will be invaluable to their aim of establishing themselves in the top flight.
