“He seems mad” – Super Eagles new boy Arthur Okonkwo shares candid thoughts on Samuel Chukwueze

Published on by

Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has expressed his admiration for Samuel Chukwueze because of his jovial attitude while in the national team, Afrik-Foot reports.

Okonkwo recently switched allegiances from England to Nigeria after several months of speculation.

Born to Nigerian parents in England, the goalkeeper was eligible to play for either of the two countries. And although he represented England at youth level, he decided to switch to Nigeria.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper is now expected to get his maiden national team call-up this month for the upcoming Unity Cup. The four-nation tournament will also involve India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe.

Ahead of his first time with the Super Eagles, he spoke about his view of the team from the outside and added that he would likely be close to Ryan Alebiosu because they have history together. Okonkwo also shared his thoughts about Chukwueze.

In the past year at least, the Fulham winger has been seen to be the jester of the team. Alex Iwobi always shares videos of what happens behind the scenes, and Chukwueze is always cracking jokes and making the camp lively.

Arthur Okonkwo, although new to the system, has expressed his admiration for the Fulham star, noting that it is important to always have a character like Chukwueze’s in the dressing room.

”If I was going to choose someone on the team, it would be Chukwueze because he seems mad and funny,” Okonkwo said.

”I don’t know him personally, but I know he will be good vibes. I like it on the bus when you have someone who doesn’t stop talking.”

Unfortunately for Okonkwo, he won’t get to meet Chukwueze at the Unity Cup, as Eric Chelle confirmed earlier that the senior members of the Super Eagles squad won’t be called up for the tournament.

Nonetheless, the Wrexham shot-stopper will be hoping to break into the main fray soon and meet his new superstar teammates.
