Super Eagles attacker Ademola Lookman scored for Atletico Madrid as they claimed a nervy 2-1 win over Osasuna on Tuesday, Afrik-Foot reports.
After last week’s heartbreak of failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, Los Colchoneros returned to action in a tricky game at Estadio El Sadar on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles star paired with Frenchman Antoine Griezmann in a two-pronged attack. However, he seemed to be the farthest man up the pitch whenever his side was on the attack.

From the kickoff, it was clear that Osasuna wouldn’t slouch and wait for Atleti to dictate the play. However, the home side was pegged back early. Atleti won a penalty after a VAR review showed that Javi Galán had committed a handball in the box.
Usually, Griezmann would be the one to take it, but he left it for Lookman, who took a short run-up and dispatched the ball into the bottom-left of the net to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute.
Since Lookman arrived at Atletico Madrid, the only complaint coach Diego Simeone has had is his perceived lack of defensive effort.
But the Super Eagles star has continued to improve in recent weeks. Against Osasuna, he was even a bit overzealous and conceded a free-kick in the 30th minute.
After scoring, Atleti went defensive, ceding possession and dominance to Osasuna. The home side created the better chances, but they simply lacked a clinical edge.
Lookman did not get the ball in dangerous areas as often as he would have liked. The Osasuna players made sure to double-mark him whenever he had possession.

There were times when he tried to initiate combination plays in the final third, but they were well-marshaled.
In the second half, Thiago Almada was taken off for Alexander Sørloth. The idea was clear: play long balls for him to hold up and link with Lookman.
However, the big Norwegian was tightly marked. Nonetheless, he eventually scored in the 71st minute, converting a comfortable header after a sweet cross from Marcos Llorente.
Lookman, who was quiet for most of the second half, was taken off for Clément Lenglet in the 82nd minute to give Atleti some defensive solidity after Llorente was sent off.
Nine minutes after that, Los Rojillos scored courtesy of a strike from Kike Barja. But it was too little, too late to stage a comeback, and the match ended 2-1.
What Were Ademola Lookman’s Key Numbers?
In his 82 minutes of action, Ademola Lookman registered one shot, which was his strike from the penalty spot. He also recorded 40 touches, one dribble, and four ball recoveries.

His passing on the night was also decent; he achieved a 79 percent success rate, completing 22 of 28 passes. He also committed two fouls during the match.
Next up for Atletico Madrid is a game against Girona at the Metropolitano on Sunday.
