Ipswich Town striker Chuba Akpom has reiterated his desire to feature for the Super Eagles at senior level, admitting that he is still hopeful of a call-up.
The 29-year-old was born in London to Nigerian parents and represented England across various youth categories, from under-16 to under-21 level. However, he was unable to break into the Three Lions squad and later switched allegiance to Nigeria.
However, despite completing the necessary paperwork years ago, the Arsenal academy product is yet to feature for the Super Eagles.

Super Eagles’ attacking depth leaves little room for Championship striker Akpom
The forward has experienced a mixed club career, enjoying a prolific spell at Middlesbrough before enduring a difficult stint at Ajax. He joined Ipswich Town on loan this summer and is currently focused on helping the Championship side secure promotion to the Premier League.
Still, Akpom revealed that his camp has been in touch with Nigeria’s head coach Éric Chelle regarding his availability.

“They’ve made me do the passport stuff. My agent has been in contact with the manager [Éric Chelle] and they’ve always liked me. If I was to get called up, it would be an honour of course,” Akpom told TWTD.
Breaking into the current Super Eagles setup will be no easy task. Nigeria boast a wealth of attacking options, led by Victor Osimhen. Behind him, strikers like Terem Moffi, Tolu Arokodare, Cyriel Dessers and Victor Boniface are all battling for regular minutes.
Akpom will need a strong run of form in the Championship to force his way into Chelle’s plans.
