Nigeria’s Super Eagles produced another entertaining display on Wednesday night as they battled to a 2-2 draw against Poland in an international friendly in Warsaw, Afrik-Foot reports.
The match brought together two nations who will not be part of this summer’s FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
After a cautious opening period, Nigeria struck first through OGC Nice forward Terem Moffi. The Super Eagles looked set to take that advantage into the break, but Poland found an equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time.

Nigeria responded strongly after the interval and moved back in front midway through the second half when Paul Onuachu converted from the penalty spot. However, the former African champions were unable to protect their lead as Poland scored again in the 95th minute to rescue a share of the spoils.
Beyond the goals, the game produced several notable statistics and milestones for the Super Eagles.
Super Eagles: Debut, records and Chelle’s remarkable unbeaten run
One of the biggest talking points was the debut of Banik Ostrava defender Abdullahi Bewene. At 21, he was the youngest Nigerian player on the pitch and one of only three Super Eagles players to complete the full 90 minutes. Captain Wilfred Ndidi and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye were the other two players to remain on the field throughout.
Onuachu’s penalty was the fifth goal of his international career. It was also the first time one of his goals failed to end in a Nigerian victory. His previous four strikes for the Super Eagles came in wins against Egypt, Benin, Lesotho and Uganda.
Head coach Eric Chelle also extended his impressive unbeaten record in regulation time since taking charge in January 2025, excluding matches involving the home-based Eagles at the African Nations Championship and last year’s test game against Egypt.

His overall Super Eagles record now stands at 14 victories and nine draws from 23 matches, with no defeats. Nigeria have also avoided defeat in each of the last 12 matches overseen by the former Mali coach across all competitions.
Chelle’s points-per-game average of 2.07 is currently the second-best return by any Nigeria coach who has managed at least 10 matches. Only Shaibu Amodu’s record of 2.09 points per game from 23 matches ranks higher since Nigeria appointed its first national team coach in 1960.
The draw also preserved Nigeria’s unbeaten record against Poland. The Super Eagles have now recorded one win and one draw against the White and Reds. Poland join the Republic of Ireland, Bulgaria and Scotland as European nations that have faced Nigeria at least twice without managing a victory.

There were personal milestones too. Moses Simon earned his 97th international cap and is now just three appearances away from becoming a Super Eagles centurion alongside Ahmed Musa, Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama. Alex Iwobi remains on 99 caps after not featuring in Warsaw, meaning he must wait a little longer for his 100th appearance.
The game marked Maduka Okoye’s 20th outing for Nigeria. The goalkeeper has now recorded seven clean sheets while conceding 17 goals for the three-time African champions.
Nigeria’s attention now turns to their next friendly assignment against Portugal on June 10.
