Russia have given Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle an unusually clear warning before Nigeria walk into Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday, Afrik-Foot reports.
Three days before the Super Eagles face Valeri Karpin’s side, Russia dismantled Namibia 6-0 at the Ekaterinburg Arena, turning a competitive first half into a second-half avalanche.
Lechi Sadulaev opened the scoring in the 37th minute before Danil Prutsev, Konstantin Tyukavin, Maksim Glushenkov and Maksim Petrov added four more. Namibia goalkeeper Kamaijanda Ndisiro then completed the rout with a stoppage-time own goal.
The Super Eagles therefore have more than a friendly to prepare for. Chelle has a live tactical blueprint sitting in front of him.
Super Eagles vs Russia: Latest Nigeria team news, injuries and expected line-up
Big warnings for Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles
Lesson 1: Russia can punish teams that switch off after half-time
Namibia survived Russia’s pressure for 36 minutes before Sadulaev’s strike finally broke the deadlock, but the real damage arrived after the interval.
Karpin made five substitutions at half-time and the fresh legs transformed Russia’s attacking speed. Prutsev struck in the 54th minute, Tyukavin made it 3-0 in the 65th, while Glushenkov and Petrov finished the job in the 84th and 87th minutes.
Chelle must therefore demand concentration from Nigeria’s first whistle after the interval. A lapse against Russia could turn a balanced contest into a runaway scoreline within minutes.

Lesson 2: Russia have dangerous depth, not just a strong starting XI
Karpin effectively changed half his team at the break and still produced a more ruthless second half.
Glushenkov assisted Tyukavin’s pressure-building phase before scoring himself, while Petrov won the late penalty and converted it. Russia also introduced Aleksey Batrakov and other fresh options as the game progressed.
That is particularly relevant to Chelle because Nigeria’s Russia squad is also experimental, with 24 players selected and several newcomers entering the senior camp. Akor Adams, Moses Simon and Stanley Nwabali provide experience, but Chelle must use his bench intelligently rather than treating substitutions as damage control.

Lesson 3: Russia will keep attacking after gaining control
The most ominous detail was not simply the six goals but Russia’s refusal to coast at 3-0.
They continued controlling possession and probing Namibia’s defence before adding three goals in the final 26 minutes. The fourth came after Maksim Petrov supplied Glushenkov inside the box, while Petrov himself converted from the spot three minutes later.
The Super Eagles cannot expect Russia to ease off once they establish an advantage.
The Super Eagles arrive after a 3-0 defeat by Guinea-Bissau, making defensive discipline and reaction to pressure especially important.
Chelle’s task is simple but unforgiving. Survive Russia’s first wave, stay compact when possession is lost and make every transition count. Anything less could turn Tuesday’s friendly into another long night for the Super Eagles.
