Super Eagles: Three clubs Christantus Uche could move to amid uncertain Getafe future

Published on by

Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche could be on his way out of Getafe once again this summer as uncertainty continues over his long-term future, Afrik-Foot reports.

Uche initially joined Getafe in 2024 and enjoyed an impressive debut spell before sealing a move to Premier League side Crystal Palace on a loan deal that included an obligation to buy last summer.

However, the move did not go as planned. The 23-year-old struggled for regular playing time and was left out of the squad for several games during the course of the season, failing to reproduce the impact he made in Spain when given opportunities.

The former Ceuta star even spoke openly about his frustration with the lack of playing time, aiming a slight dig at Oliver Glasner as at the time.

“I may not have much playing time, but I am grateful for the fans who continue to support me and the team,” Uche said during the season.

“Your dedication and enthusiasm mean a lot, and I hope to make you proud whenever I do get the chance to play but I know maybe it won’t happen again because the coach doesn’t like me.”

Uche’s loan spell at Crystal Palace expires at the end of the month, after which he is expected to return to Getafe. According to reports from Spain, he could be involved in another move this summer if a suitable offer arrives, potentially marking the next step in his career.

Three potential destinations for Super Eagles midfielder this summer

While Getafe could still keep Christantus Uche at the club, the club’s financial situation – like many La Liga sides, may force them to consider a sale in order to reinvest in the squad, especially with European football returning next season.

Afrik-Foot takes a look at three clubs he could join if he eventually decides to leave Getafe this summer:

1. Real Betis

Real Betis secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 21 years and are expected to strengthen their squad significantly ahead of a demanding campaign next season.

Uche is believed to be one of the players they have monitored for some time, and this summer could present the perfect opportunity to make a move for him.

The Super Eagles star’s La Liga experience also works in his favour and he would not need time to adapt to the league, while his versatility would be very valuable given the number of matches Betis are expected to play next season.

2. Everton

While his initial spell in the Premier League was quite underwhelming, Uche could return to the English top-flight this summer as Everton have emerged as a strong contender for his signature.

The Toffees under David Moyes, are known for a direct, physical style of football that could suit Uche’s strengths given his physicality and pace, which would help him slot easily into their counter-attacking style.

Although his time at Crystal Palace was disappointing in terms of minutes, his quality was never in doubt and the Super Eagles midfielder showed flashes of his brilliance when he was handed the opportunity during the season, which could convince Everton to step up their pursuit.

3. Newcastle United

Newcastle United are also showing interest in Christantus Uche, which could see the midfielder return to the Premier League for a second spell after his difficult time at Crystal Palace.

The Magpies are expected to strengthen their squad this summer after the departure of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, as well as uncertainty over Sandro Tonali’s future and could benefit from Uche’s versatility, as he is capable of playing in multiple midfield roles.

A move to St James’ Park would also offer the Super Eagles midfielder a fresh opportunity to rebuild his Premier League reputation and he should thrive under Eddie Howe, who has a reputation for developing young players.
