Super Eagles confirmed line-up against Bafana Bafana: Peseiro makes one Nigeria change

Published on by Godfred Budu

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has passed a late fitness test to make the starting line-up for their semi-final clash against South Africa at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024).

Jose Peseiro made one change to the team that defeated Angola in the quarter-finals, with Bright Osayi-Samuel replacing Zaidu Sanusi.

The Super Eagles are aiming to do better than they did in the last edition of the AFCON in 2021, where they were eliminated at the round of 16 stage. They are poised to win their fourth AFCON title in Ivory Coast.

This term, the Super Eagles have a more potent attack and an exceptionally solid defence that is challenging to breach.

Nigeria have yet to suffer defeat in the tournament, having won all their games except for a draw against Equatorial Guinea in the matchday one fixture.

Bafana Bafana lost their opening game to Mali but managed to advance from the group.

They defeated pre-tournament favourites Morocco in the Round of 16 and needed a bit of luck to eliminate Cape Verde in the quarter-finals, thanks to the heroics of their goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams.

Osimhen to lead Super Eagles charge vs Bafana Bafana

Peseiro has opted to stick with the 3-4-3 formation that served him well since the Ivory Coast game. Stanley Nwabali remains in goal and will be shielded by a three-man defence of Semi Ajayi, William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey.

Ola Aina takes his place at right wing-back, while Zaidu Sanusi is tasked with operating at the opposite end, with Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi deployed in the middle of the park for the Super Eagles

The front three is also made up of the usual suspects – Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen.
