Super Eagles full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel has spoken on his experience of working with José Mourinho.

The Portuguese trainer assumed the role of Fenerbahçe's new manager in June, replacing İsmail Kartal at the Turkish giants and marking his 11th managerial position.

Kartal was relieved of his duties after Fenerbahçe finished second in the Turkish Super Lig for the third consecutive year.

Despite being at the helm for just a few weeks, the 61-year-old has already won over the dressing room, earned praise from the 26-year-old Nigeria international.

Osayi-Samuel: Super Eagles defender on adapting and learning from Mourinho

Under the new leadership of Mourinho, Fenerbahçe has seen a shift in both tactics and morale, according to Osayi-Samuel, who stated his admiration for the Portuguese manager, and spoke on the impact he has already had on the team.

“Mourinho is a scary but also very nice person,” the Super Eagles full-back said. “It is a great honour to work with him. I want to improve myself in terms of goals and assists.

“For me, wing, full-back, or right-back doesn't change. No matter how we play, my job is to defend and attack, I don't think there will be much difference. I played with a 3-man defence during (former manager Jorge) Jesus' time, (but now) our coach is different, (so) I'll learn new things from him.”

Fenerbahce's immediate priority is to secure Champions League qualification. The 2023/24 Super Lig runners-up will face Swiss side Lugano in the second leg of their second qualifying round match, following a 4-3 away victory in the first leg.

To reach the newly-revamped Champions League, Mourinho's side must then triumph in two additional knockout rounds.
