Super Eagles: How Durosinmi can improve at Genk — 2 areas he must work on

Published on by

Super Eagles forward Rafiu Durosinmi has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2026-27 season at Belgian side Genk, Afrik-Foot reports.

Durosinmi joined the club during the summer transfer window from Italian side Pisa and has been impressive since making the move, rediscovering the form he struggled to show during his time in Italy.

The Super Eagles striker endured a difficult spell at Pisa, where he struggled for consistency and suffered relegation with the club before being given an opportunity to leave during the summer in the hope of reviving his career.

He has since scored five goals in six games across all competitions for Genk and is gradually returning to the level he previously showed during his time at Viktoria Plzen.

His impressive start has also earned him comparisons with Super Eagles first-choice striker Victor Osimhen from former Nigerian international Tosin Dosunmu, who believes there are similarities between the two forwards.

“On matchday one, he already surprised me with what he showed after barely ten days of training”, Dosunmu said, via Tribal Football.

“Rafiu sometimes reminds me a bit of Victor Osimhen, with the difference that he is really very strong in the air.”

However, despite Durosinmi’s impressive start to life at Genk, Dosunmu believes there are still two areas the Nigerian forward needs to improve on if he is to take his game to another level.

Super Eagles: Two areas Durosinmi must work on

While Dosunmu has been impressed by Durosinmi’s start to the season, the former Super Eagles striker believes the 23-year-old still has room for improvement in two important areas.

One area Durosinmi needs to improve is his physical condition. The Super Eagles forward only joined Genk during the summer and is still gradually adapting to his new surroundings, teammates and the demands of Belgian football.

Although he has already made a strong impact in front of goal, Dosunmu believes Durosinmi is not yet at his best physically and will need more time to reach top condition.

“Condition-wise, he is not yet top-notch,” Dosunmu said.

With more time at Genk and regular training, Durosinmi should be able to improve his fitness and physical sharpness. That could allow him to maintain his level for longer periods and become even more effective for the Belgian side.

The second area Durosinmi needs to work on is his understanding with his teammates. Having only joined Genk a few months ago, the Super Eagles striker is still developing an understanding with the players around him, particularly in the final third.

Better chemistry with his teammates could help Durosinmi become more involved in Genk’s attacking play and create more opportunities for himself and those around him.

Dosunmu believes this understanding still needs to develop, despite the striker already scoring five goals since his arrival.

“The understanding with his teammates still needs to develop a bit,” he added.

The Nigerian striker will return to action for Genk next weekend against Club Brugge as he looks to continue his impressive start to the season.
