“Great job” – Ex-Super Eagles captain applauds Frank Lampard for Coventry promotion

Published on by

Former Super Eagles captain and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has lapped up his former teammate Frank Lampard for promoting Coventry to the English Premier League, Afrik Foot reports.

The Sky Blue Stars exited the English top-flight back in 2001, but Lampard, 18 months after his appointment, has stewarded the club back to its rightful place.

While they’ve not lifted the EFL Championship yet, it is mathematically impossible for any team to overthrow them since they’re ten points clear at the top of the table.

The pair played 228 games together between 2006 and 2014, winning two English Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League title in 2012.

Mikel revealed that he sent a congratulatory message to his ex-teammate, lapping him up for his job well done.

“As always, I’m in support of his work. What an amazing job Lampard has done.

“Getting Coventry City back into the Premier League is amazing,” the AFCON 2013 winner said on the Obi One podcast.

“We all knew where the club was when he took over, we know their history. It’s good to see them back.

“He’s back where he belongs. You make mistakes in life, and sometimes you have to go down and find yourself again.

“I think that’s what has happened with him, and that experience will be vital in the Premier League next season.

“I sent him a text telling him to go on and win the title, and he told me not to worry about that,” Mikel Obi concluded.
