Ex-Super Eagles star reveales what Fulham missed in Iwobi’s absence against Arsenal

Former Super Eagles and Brentford defender Sam Sodje has opined on one key attribute Fulham missed in Iwobi’s absence against Arsenal, Afrik Foot reports.

Iwobi turned 30 yesterday, but will not feature for the Cottagers again this season after suffering a hamstring tear in their game against Brentford two weeks ago.

In the absence of the versatile midfielder, Arsenal turned up the heat at the Emirates.

Viktor Gyokeres had arguably the best game of his career against Marco Silva’s side, scoring a brace, whilst setting up Bukayo Saka’s goal.

Sodje revealed the Super Eagles midfielder brings stability and experience to the midfield, playing solely to Marco Silva’s instructions.

Given that it wasn’t on display at the Emirates, Fulham were so easy to play through.

“Iwobi has always been a player that plays to a structure, and I think that’s why he has got so many managers that really like him,” Sam Sodje said in an interview with Footy Africa.

“I think his ability enough is not what is getting him where he is. I think his discipline of how to play to a system has made him the player he has become.

“I think he has improved so much because of the career he has had in England.

“I know how tough it is—we have to give him a lot of respect.

“So him turning 30, you know, he grew up in our face and it’s scary to say he will be 30, but he’s come to be a very experienced and important player for the national team,” the 46-year-old concluded.

Fulham are losing ground in their race for a UEFA Europa League spot. They’ve won just two of their last seven league games.
