Reports from the Netherlands indicate that Ajax are prepared to offload seven players, including Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom, deeming them surplus to requirements.

The Arsenal academy product, who is waiting on a call from Nigeria's Super Eagles, joined Ajax in August of the previous year, arriving with a strong reputation built on his crucial contributions to Middlesbrough's Championship playoff campaign during the 2022/2023 season.

Akpom's remarkable achievement of 28 goals in the English second tier earned him several prestigious accolades, including the PFA Championship Player of the Year, EFL Championship Player of the Season, and the Golden Boot.

With his current contract set to expire in June 2028, the Ajax hierarchy, including Coach Francesco Farioli and Technical Director Alex Kroes, has decided to part ways with the forward.

Chuba Akpom's future: Potential return to England for Super Eagles hopeful

In 31 appearances across the Eredivisie and UEFA Europa League for Ajax, Chuba Akpom has registered 14 goals and provided three assists. Despite these contributions, some segments of the club's fanbase have questioned his value in representing the team's iconic red and white colours.

With his exit from Ajax imminent as per Dutch outlet Voetbalnieuws, the 28-year-old forward could be set for a return to England. He has previously been linked with Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, with the former believed to be the most interested party.

Forest are keen to bolster their attacking options, especially given that Chris Wood, who scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, is 32 years old, raising concerns about his longevity. Also, Taiwo Awoniyi, who also plays for Forest, spent much of last season sidelined with injuries.

A return to England could be beneficial for Chuba Akpom, improving his chances of a Super Eagles call-up.
