Super Eagles: Hull City eye Femi Azeez — Why the move makes sense

Newly promoted Premier League side Hull City have stepped up their pursuit of Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez ahead of a potential move this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

Azeez’s future has remained uncertain throughout the transfer window, especially after expressing his desire to play in the Premier League following Millwall’s failure to secure promotion last season.

The Lions reached the Championship playoff semifinals after finishing third in the league but were beaten by Hull City, who went on to win the playoffs and secure promotion to the Premier League.

Now preparing for life in the top flight, the Tigers are targeting major reinforcements, with Azeez identified as one of their priority attacking targets. 

According to reports, Hull City are actively exploring the possibility of completing a deal before the start of the 2026-27 Premier League season on August 21.

Although Hull City have already strengthened their squad this summer, they are still looking to add more quality, and a move for the Super Eagles forward makes sense for several sporting reasons.

Femi Azeez: How the Super Eagles winger would improve Hull City

One of Azeez’s biggest strengths is his versatility, which could prove very valuable for Hull City next season. With the club returning to the Premier League, they will need players capable of filling multiple roles across a demanding campaign.

While he plays primarily as a right winger, the Super Eagles star is equally comfortable playing on the left and can also operate as an attacking midfielder. He showcased that versatility during Nigeria’s 2-0 Unity Cup semifinal victory over Zimbabwe in the 2026 Unity Cup tournament, where he played in an advanced central role and scored both goals on his debut under Eric Chelle.

Beyond his versatility, Azeez would also strengthen Hull City’s attack with his pace and creativity. The Tigers are likely to spend long periods without the ball against stronger Premier League opponents. In those situations, quick transitions and counter attacks will be crucial, and Azeez possesses the speed and attacking quality to punish teams on the break.

That makes him an ideal option for a side expected to rely heavily on transition football in most of their matches next season.

Another reason the move makes sense is Hull City’s ambition to establish themselves in the Premier League rather than make an immediate return to the Championship.

Azeez not only provides extra depth, but the Super Eagles forward also brings proven end product. He played a key role in Millwall’s impressive Championship campaign last season, helping the club reach the playoffs while earning a place in the Championship Team of the Season.

Millwall have already rejected a £20 million bid from Ipswich Town for the Super Eagles forward and are reportedly holding out for a fee of around £30 million before considering a sale.

If Hull City can meet that valuation, they would be signing a player capable of adding much quality to their squad ahead of next season.
