Super Eagles star shakes injury off in time for crucial EFL Championship clash

Super Eagles and Blackburn Rovers right-back Ryan Alebiosu has been declared fit to start his side’s clash against Coventry City tonight, Afrik Foot reports.

The 24-year-old was withdrawn at half-time against Southampton last week, and coach Michael O’Neill initially revealed the defender was struggling with pain in his back and ribs.

“We had to take him out. We will have to wait and see. I don’t have any medical news I can give you.

“Ryan got injured in a collision. He was struggling with his ribs and his back. We’ve just got to see,” the Northern Irishman said.

Alebiosu: Super Eagles defender passed fit for Championship clash vs Coventry

Alebiosu was forced off after landing awkwardly following a challenge with Ryan Manning.

Additionally, Adam Forshaw also injured his calf in that game, but both could be in line to feature when the Sky Blues make the trip to Ewood Park tonight.

“Ryan came through training today having come off in the game on Tuesday night, so that was a bonus,” Blackburn Rovers coach said in quotes revealed by the club’s official website.

“We’re hopeful that Adam Forshaw might pass a fitness test in the morning, but Todd is probably not going to be available.

“We’ll have that discussion in the morning, but he is a higher risk than Adam is at this moment in time.

“Adam’s been terrific since I came in and has played way more minutes than maybe he expected to and what people maybe thought he was capable,” O’Neill concluded.

Blackburn Rovers are currently four points above the relegation zone, and a loss tonight could see them scrambling for air in their remaining league games.

Coventry City meanwhile, will be league champions if they defeat Alebiosu’s side tonight.
