Official: Super Eagles to face Lewandowski's Poland, 2016 Euros champions in June

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are scheduled to face Poland and Portugal in two high-profile international friendlies this June, Afrik reports.

Despite Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been proactive in keeping the national team active. The team is fresh off two friendly matches against Iran and Jordan, which ended in a 2-1 win and a 2-2 draw, respectively.

These fixtures proved crucial for head coach Eric Chelle, providing him a vital opportunity to integrate new talent and evaluate how they fit into his tactical setup.

With the current international break concluded, national teams will not convene again until the European club season ends in June. This window is typically when World Cup-bound nations intensify their preparations for the tournament.

While the Super Eagles will not be participating in the World Cup itself, they have secured these top fixtures just before the global showpiece kicks off. Nigeria will first face Poland on June 3rd, followed by a clash against Portugal seven days later.

Portugal secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup last November. On the other hand, Poland — much like Nigeria — missed out on qualification after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Sweden in the European playoffs on Tuesday, March 31.

The prospect of facing such caliber of opposition has sparked excitement among both the players and the fans. Both European nations boast squads filled with world-class talent. In fact, Portugal won the Euros in 2016.
