Super Eagles and Atletico Madrid forward Ademola Lookman has revealed where his side gained the advantage in their win over Barcelona, Afrik Foot reports.

Diego Simeone’s men secured a 2-0 win at the Spotify Camp Nou last week, thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth.

The home leg at the Wanda Metroplitano took a turn towards Barca’s progress real quick, as Lamine Yamal broke the deadlock in the fourth minute.

Ferran Torres doubled the lead twenty minutes later, before Lookman pulled one back in the 31st minute.

There were seven minutes between Ferran Torres’ goal and Ademola Lookman’s. Between those, Fermin Lopez suffered an injury after clashing with Atletico’s goalkeeper, Juan Musso.

The Spanish midfielder was left bleeding from his face, and the break gave Atletico the chance to recharge and get a goal back.

After the game, Lookman admitted that the break-up in play gave them an advantage.

“It was a game of two halves, we stuck in there, but we’re through and that’s the most important.

“I think the break helped us. The momentum was going their way, but we were able to switch after and we tried to continue that way in the second half,” the 2024 CAF Player of the Year said in an interview with TNT Sports.

“Yes, I trained for that goal, being there to make the final decision. We’re very happy to play in this competition, and I give credit to the staff, the team and everyone because they’ve very dedicated.

“It wasn’t easy, but every one put in the work. Going two goals down is not easy. They had the momentum, Juan had a massive save against Fermin, and that gave us the energy to keep going,” Lookman concluded.
