AFCON 2015 winner, Yaya Touré has singled out the Super Eagles as the best side at AFCON 2025, backing his view with both performance and substance from Nigeria’s run in Morocco.
The former Ivory Coast international and multiple CAF Awards winner followed the tournament closely and believes no team left a stronger footballing impression, despite Nigeria falling short of the title.
The Eric Chelle-led side’s campaign combined volume and control. Fourteen goals scored, only four conceded, and a knockout phase that passed without a single goal allowed against them. Even in defeat, the Super Eagles imposed themselves. Their semi-final exit came via a tight contest with Morocco, settled on fine margins rather than a gulf in quality.

Why Super Eagles left the strongest impression at AFCON 2025
Touré’s strongest praise was reserved for Nigeria’s approach. “I was impressed with Nigeria. Nigeria play good football,” he said. “When you see the stats, they’ve been scoring more than usual goals. It feels like full attack, playing very good football.” The emphasis, he suggested, was not just results but the manner in which they were achieved.

He went further, placing the Super Eagles above the rest of the field. “The most impressive for me, in my opinion, was Nigeria, the football they were playing, the goals they were scoring,” the former Barca midfielder noted. “The players were winning because the two best African players are on their team.” he told Bleacher Report Football.
In his view, Nigeria consistently dictated games rather than reacting to them.
Although the title slipped away, the tournament ended on a winning note. The Super Eagles secured the bronze medal after edging Egypt on penalties in the third-place match, closing AFCON 2025 with another composed display.
