Versatile Super Eagles attacker gets injury green light ahead of March international break

Super Eagles winger Nathan Tella is set to return to action after spending two months on the sidelines with a leg injury, Afrik-Foot reports.

It has been a grueling campaign for Tella at Bayer Leverkusen, with his season largely defined by recurring fitness struggles.

During the first half of the season, a knee injury kept him out for over two months before he finally returned in November. However, his comeback was short-lived; he was sidelined again in January, this time with a leg issue.

While recovering, the 26-year-old has frequently been spotted supporting his teammates from the stands on matchdays.

Now, his wait for a return to the pitch appears to be over. Reports from the German outlet Bild suggest that Tella could be in contention for next week’s high-stakes clash against Bayern Munich.

Given the duration of his absence and the intensity of the fixture, it is unlikely that Tella will be thrust into the starting XI immediately.

Leverkusen’s technical bench will likely opt for a cautious approach, introducing him from the bench to avoid risking another significant setback.

Can Nathan Tella Secure a Spot in the Super Eagles Squad?

With Tella’s return coinciding with the lead-up to the March international break, he is expected to be a name under consideration for Eric Chelle’s provisional list.

Unfortunately for the former Southampton man, his international career has been hampered by timing.

On several occasions, he has missed out on Super Eagles call-ups either due to active injuries or a lack of match fitness following a layoff.

This inconsistency, coupled with the stellar form of Nigeria’s other wingers, has made it difficult for him to break into the starting lineup.

Tella will likely have at least two club matches to prove his quality and fitness before the final squad list is announced, and he will be desperate to make a lasting impression.
