The Super Eagles have received a timely lift ahead of the Unity Cup, with Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu officially cleared to switch international allegiance to Nigeria.
Although Agu was initially listed to train with the squad for the upcoming tournament in London, a new update from the German Football Federation has now confirmed that the 24-year-old is fully eligible to represent Nigeria.
He was never cap-tied at youth or senior level, having only featured in two friendly matches for Germany’s U21 side back in 2019.

Head coach Eric Chelle included Agu in a 26-man provisional squad for the Unity Cup, though the defender was not named in the trimmed list to face Russia in the June 6 friendly. Still, his invitation to camp was a clear sign of intent, now backed by official confirmation.

The clearance opens the door for Nigeria to call up the versatile full-back for competitive fixtures going forward, especially as the Super Eagles need cover and depth ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Agu enjoyed a strong 2024/25 season with Werder Bremen, netting three goals in 22 league appearances.
The former German youth international was also the most prolific penalty winner in the Bundesliga, winning three spot-kicks, more than any other player in the division.
Nigeria will face Ghana in the semifinal of the Unity Cup on May 28 at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Chelle likely to use the friendly tournament to assess fresh options.
