Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle believes the NPFL players he selected have the talent to break into the main squad as the team gathers in London ahead of the Unity Cup.

Chelle, speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, said he closely watched the NPFL players before inviting them and believes they are ready to compete.

The Franco-Malian called up Sodiq Ismail, Sikiru Alimi, and Nduka from NPFL champions Remo Stars, along with Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, Collin Ugwueze, and Saviour Isaac from Rangers.

He also included Papa Daniel (Niger Tornadoes), Adamu Abubakar (Plateau United), Waliu Ojetoye (Ikorodu City), and veteran skipper Ahmed Musa, now playing for Kano Pillars.

“We have many players in Nigeria. We must give others a chance to show their quality,” Chelle said when asked about the NPFL selections.

“I was in Nigeria and watched several league games. I spent time analysing these players—it’s part of my job.

“I believe they have the quality and deserve an opportunity.

“I’m confident in their commitment to the country. They bring intensity and a strong desire to wear this jersey. I picked about 10 players, and they are good players,” he added.

Chelle also addressed the return of Ahmed Musa to the national team.

The 32-year-old, who last featured at the Africa Cup of Nations, is now with NPFL side Kano Pillars. Chelle believes Musa still has something to offer.

“I think Ahmed is a good player. A great player. Every Nigerian knows that. That’s the reality.

“His quality and experience are valuable. He knows the game and has played many high-level matches, so he can add something to the group.

“My vision is simple—we give him a chance. He must take it and show what he can do. After that, it’s my decision.”

The Super Eagles are currently in London preparing for the Unity Cup tournament at Brentford’s Gtech Arena.

The competition features Nigeria, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica.
