Super Eagles: Why Nnadi will miss Marseille’s clash with PSG — key reason revealed

Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi will miss Olympique Marseille’s crucial Ligue 1 clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, Afrik-Foot reports.

Les Phocéens welcome the French champions to the Stade Vélodrome for their fifth league game of the season, with Marseille hoping to end their poor run of form and move further up the standings.

Marseille have picked up just one win from their opening four league matches, leaving them with three points and sitting 15th in the table.

Head coach Bruno Genesio, who replaced Habib Beye in the summer, has struggled to get his side going in the early stages of his time at the club. After opening the campaign with a 4-0 win over Strasbourg, Marseille have failed to win in their last four matches across all competitions.

They have suffered three consecutive league defeats, while their poor run was made worse by a heavy 4-1 loss to Besiktas in the Europa League last Thursday.

They now face PSG, who have also experienced a difficult start to the season, as Marseille look to secure a much-needed victory and turn their fortunes around.

However, Genesio’s side will be without the services of Nigerian midfielder Nnadi, who has been ruled out of the encounter.

Nnadi has been out of action since August after suffering a serious knee injury during Marseille’s clash with Monaco.

The Super Eagles midfielder only came on at half-time, but was forced off in the second half and has remained on the sidelines since then as he continues his recovery.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash, Genesio confirmed that almost the entire squad is available for the match, with Nnadi and former French youth international Geoffrey Kondogbia the only players ruled out.

“As against Besiktas, only Kondo (Geoffrey Kondogbia) and Tochukwu (Nnadi) are unfit for the Paris match”, he told Foot Mercato.

Nnadi will now sit out another league game for Marseille as he continues his recovery to be fit in time after the international break.

The Nigerian star will also miss the Super Eagles’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month.
