Super Eagles: 3 clubs that could be perfect for Udinese star Maduka Okoye

Published on by

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye could be enjoying his final few months at Udinese after a successful spell with the Italian club.

The Nigerian international has established himself as Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper since arriving from Watford in 2023.

In three years, Okoye has earned regular playing time, gained valuable experience, and become one of the finest shot-stoppers in Serie A.

However, after proving his quality in Italy, the 27-year-old could be ready to take another step forward.

Udinese are not expected to stand in his way if a suitable offer arrives, and it could be up to Okoye to weigh up his options and choose a club that can advance both his personal and international ambitions.

With his market value currently estimated at €10 million, per Transfermarkt, the goalkeeper could attract significant interest if Udinese decide to cash in. Here are three clubs that could provide the ideal next chapter for the Super Eagles star.

Super Eagles: 3 ideal next destinations for Maduka Okoye

1. Inter Milan

Inter Milan could represent the most attractive option for Okoye, particularly as none of Josep Martínez, Ivan Provedel, and Raffaele Di Gennaro are proving to be capable long-term successor to Yann Sommer.

At 27, Okoye would be younger than all three and arguably possesses a better suite of qualities that could inspire Inter Milan in their hunt for domestic and continental titles.

Okoye’s experience in Italian football would also work in his favour. Having spent several seasons learning the demands of Serie A, he would not need to adapt to an entirely new league or country.

A move to Inter could also bring Champions League football and the opportunity to compete for major honours.

However, the Nigerian would need to prove he can handle the pressure of playing for one of Italy’s most demanding clubs. He would also have to compete for the starting position rather than expect an immediate promotion.

If Inter turn their reported interest into a formal offer, the move could be a major career breakthrough.

2. Juventus

Juventus offer another compelling destination for the Udinese goalkeeper, who is still struggling to become the Super Eagles’ first-choice.

The Turin giants have traditionally placed a premium on defensive organisation and dependable goalkeeping, qualities that could suit Okoye’s physical presence, reflexes and growing experience.

Standing at approximately 1.98 metres, the Nigerian possesses the frame to command his penalty area and deal with aerial deliveries.

Juventus would offer him another opportunity to compete at the highest level of Italian football while remaining in a familiar environment.

Twenty-seven year-old Kamil Grabara, currently injured, and Guglielmo Vicario, 30, would be Okoye’s main rivals at Juventus with both Carlo Pinsoglio and Neto already above 36.

Okoye would would welcome such competition and would be favourites to come out on top.

3. Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş could offer Okoye a different route to career progression.

The Turkish giants have ambitions to challenge domestically and compete strongly in Europe, making a reliable goalkeeper an important part of their plans.

Unlike a move to Inter or Juventus, a switch to Istanbul could potentially offer Okoye a clearer path to regular first-team football.

Germany’s Alexander Nübel is the current number one at the club, while Turkish youngsters Emir Yaşar and Doğan Alemdar are still trying to find their feet.

Beşiktaş would provide an opportunity to experience a different football culture while joining a club with passionate supporters and considerable expectations.

Nevertheless, Okoye would need to assess the sporting project carefully before leaving the stability he has built at Udinese.

Maduka Okoye: Afrik-Foot verdict

Inter Milan offer the strongest combination of prestige and potential Champions League exposure, while Juventus could provide another route into Italy’s elite.

Beşiktaş, meanwhile, could be attractive if regular playing time is Okoye’s main priority.

However, if becoming a first-choice at any of these clubs is not guaranteed, Okoye could be better served remaining at Udinese and helping the club maintain its standings among Italy’s best.
