Super Eagles: 4 clubs Philip Otele could join amid Basel uncertainty 

Super Eagles forward Philip Otele could soon be on his way out of Swiss champions Basel this summer as interest in his services continues to grow ahead of the new season, Afrik-Foot reports.

Otele has faced an uncertain future at Basel throughout the transfer window following his return from a loan spell at German club Hamburg at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old joined Hamburg on loan during the winter transfer window and made history by becoming the club’s first-ever Nigerian goalscorer in the Bundesliga. However, the German side opted against making the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

Despite featuring in Basel’s opening two Swiss Super League matches of the 2026/27 season, his long-term future at the club remains far from certain.

According to GiveMeSport, several clubs across Europe are monitoring the Nigerian winger and could make a move before the transfer window closes.

1. Lecce

Serie A side Lecce have emerged as one of the strongest contenders for Otele’s signature as they look to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.

The Italian club struggled for goals last season and see the Nigerian as a player capable of adding pace, direct running and creativity in the final third.

A move to Serie A would also give Otele the opportunity to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues, increasing his visibility and potentially boosting his chances of becoming a regular in the Super Eagles setup.

2. Frosinone

Newly promoted Serie A club Frosinone are also interested in signing Otele as they prepare for life back in Italy’s top flight.

The club are determined to avoid an immediate return to Serie B and believe the Nigerian winger could play an important role in helping them remain competitive.

Frosinone have already strengthened their squad with the signing of Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma, and adding Otele would further improve their options going forward.

3. Fulham

Premier League side Fulham have maintained a long-standing interest in Otele and could revive their pursuit before the end of the transfer window.
