Super Eagles: What Sevilla’s transfer setback could mean for Ejuke – 2 things to expect

Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke continues to face uncertainty over his future at Spanish side Sevilla this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

Ejuke entered the final year of his contract at the record Europa League winners last month and had been widely tipped to leave the club this summer alongside countryman Akor Adams, who has already completed a move to newly promoted Serie A side Venezia.

While the 28-year-old had been heavily linked with several clubs ahead of a possible transfer, Belgian side Anderlecht appeared to have the strongest interest. However, no agreement has been reached with any club so far, further casting doubt over Ejuke’s future.

Anderlecht were reportedly ready to pay a fee for the Nigerian, but Ejuke’s financial demands were one of the reasons the move failed to materialize.

The Super Eagles winger was left out of Sevilla’s pre-season friendlies amid transfer talks with interested clubs and trained separately from the rest of the squad as a planned exit appeared likely.

Sevilla were keen to move him on this summer in order to make a profit from his sale and ease some of their financial difficulties.

However, reports from Spain can now confirm that Ejuke has since returned to training with the rest of the squad, leaving the club with a major decision to make over his future.

Ejuke could be handed another chance at Sevilla

The Super Eagles winger joined Sevilla from CSKA Moscow in 2024 after spending loan spells at Hertha Berlin and Royal Antwerp during his time at the Russian club.

However, he never really established himself as a regular starter at Sevilla and was largely used as an impact substitute while remaining on the fringes of the team.

The Spanish club had hoped to sell him for a profit this summer, but if a suitable offer does not arrive, Ejuke could now be reintegrated into the squad after returning to group training.

While his proposed move to Anderlecht may no longer happen, the situation could give the Super Eagles forward another opportunity to work his way back into the team and potentially play a more important role next season.

Sevilla are entering a major rebuilding period after narrowly avoiding relegation last season, and they will be hoping to improve on that performance in the new campaign.

That could give Ejuke an opportunity to earn a stronger role in the team if he remains at the club.

A transfer for the Super Eagles star could still happen this summer

Although the move to Anderlecht has broken down, the summer transfer window is still open and a deal could still be completed for Ejuke.

There is reportedly still interest from Major League Soccer and clubs in the Middle East, meaning the Super Eagles forward could yet leave Sevilla before the window closes.

However, any interested club would first need to match Sevilla’s valuation, while Ejuke’s financial demands would also have to be met for a deal to happen.

If no suitable offer arrives, the Nigerian could remain at Sevilla and see out the final year of his contract. He could then either extend his stay with the club or leave as a free agent next summer.

Sevilla will begin their La Liga campaign when they face Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, with Ejuke now likely to have a role to play for the Spanish side as they begin preparations for the new season.
