Super Eagles star ready for Crystal Palace, Getafe talk ahead of summer decision

Crystal Palace forward Christantus Uche is carefully thinking about his future as uncertainty surrounds his situation at the club ahead of the summer transfer window, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 22-year-old joined Palace on loan from Getafe CF last summer. The deal included an option for Palace to make the move permanent at the end of the season. However, several factors have made his long-term stay at Selhurst Park far from certain.

Uche has found it difficult to secure regular playing time under manager Oliver Glasner. Although he has settled well in London and is happy at the club, he would want clear assurances about his role before committing to a permanent transfer.

There is also wider uncertainty at Palace. Glasner is set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the campaign. In addition, important first-team players such as Daichi Kamada and Jean-Philippe Mateta could depart. That has created doubts about the direction of the squad heading into next season.

Uche had opportunities to leave in January but chose to stay and fight for his place, even after Palace signed attackers Jørgen Strand Larsen and Evann Guessand to strengthen their frontline.

Since the January transfer window closed, however, he has played only seven minutes from the bench, falling further down the pecking order.

Super Eagles and Uche: AFCON dream to drive Getafe, Palace decision

A return to Getafe remains a strong possibility for Uche. The Spanish club have performed well despite his absence. Last season, Uche played a key role as they finished 13th in La Liga. He scored four goals and provided six assists in 33 league matches and was widely praised as one of the revelations of the season.

This term, Getafe sit 11th and are pushing for a top-ten finish. Head coach José Bordalás is known to admire Uche’s versatility and work rate, which could open the door for a return to Spain.

Still, the Owerri-born forward may prefer to remain in the Premier League. He attracted interest from several English clubs last year and nearly joined Wolverhampton Wanderers before sealing his move to Palace on deadline day.

Regular football will be Uche’s top priority. His limited minutes this season cost him a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Eagles claimed bronze after defeating Egypt in the third-place match.

With the next AFCON set to take place in East Africa next year, Uche is determined to return to international contention. Whether that means staying in England or heading back to Spain, his decision this summer could shape the next important chapter of his career.
